SdKfz 9: 18 ton towing tractor and tank recovery vehicle
SdKfz 9/1: mount for 6 ton revolving crane
SdKfz 9/2: mount for 10 ton revolving crane
The workshop units of panzer divisions or units with tanks
were also issued these vehicles with the cranes and as recovery vehicles to tow
the tanks back to be repaired after they had been disabled. It took three 18
ton halftracks to tow a Tiger I/Panther for example.
